A practical guide from the team at Puranmal Sons & Ceramix Syndicate.
The big differences come down to density and water absorption. Ceramic tiles absorb more water and are softer; vitrified and porcelain tiles are denser, harder and absorb very little water — which makes them stronger and better for floors.
Ceramic is economical and ideal for walls and light-traffic residential floors. It's easy to cut and comes in many designs, but it's less suited to heavy floor traffic.
Vitrified tiles (GVT/PGVT, double-charge, full-body) are dense and durable, making them the go-to for most modern floors, living areas and commercial spaces.
Porcelain is a very dense, low-absorption tile that performs excellently in high-traffic and wet areas. Choose ceramic for walls and budget floors, vitrified for most floors, and porcelain where maximum durability is needed. We can guide you per room.
